Though no offer has been officially made, Yahoo! Sports reporter Gordon Edes is reporting that the Mets are in "deep negotiations" with free agent starting pitcher, Derek Lowe. This could well be the case, as the Yankees' signing of Mark Teixeira and their previous signings of pitchers C.C. Sabathia and A.J. Burnett likely takes them out of the running for Lowe, who last pitched for the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Mets' competition for Lowe could come from the Phillies, Angels and Cubs, among other clubs.
