Normally, this item wouldn't merit as much attention on this blog as it's getting. But because righty reliever Joe Nelson was, after all, the last man to throw a pitch on the Shea Stadium mound, his new status is worth a mention. Nelson, the former Florida Marlin and winning pitcher against the Mets two months ago in Shea Stadium's final game has, according to the Miami Herald, signed a one-year, $1.3 million deal with the American League Champion Tampa Bay Rays.
